ALARIS
Life-size male sculpture, Alaris, is a Latin term primarily meaning "of or belonging to the wings".
An armature of hand shaped steel plate sections, constructed over the anvil and welded together were used to form the body. The wings were made using the English Wheel, each section hand cut and given its curvature, then welded onto an armature of steel rods.
As the sculpture evolved and the form was ready to accept the final part to its build, a surface of arc weld was layered over the steel to produce the undulating patination... this whole process took many months to make (please see the build photos).
The sculpture base is 3mm thick Corten steel, and Alaris, is mounted via three 25mm thick threaded bars welded into the leg and foot.
This is bolted to the base.
Build time 7.5 months. Weight 200 kgs. Height 196 cm. Width 110 cm. Depth 155 cm
Measurements include the base.
